M. Stewart
Hello, I'm Maurice Stewart. I was released from incarceration on February 11, 2021, after serving 23 years in the VADOC. At just 16 years of age, I was handed a 31-year prison sentence for robbery, carjacking, and firearm possession. It was my first brush with the law, and although no one was hurt in any of the incidents, the severity of the sentence stunned me.
The first time I shared my story with Mrs. Moore Majeed, she could scarcely believe it. While we both acknowledged the seriousness of my actions and their impact on the victims, the punishment was harsh for someone so young, especially when the crimes did not involve homicide or rape.
When Mrs. Moore Majeed asked if my crime occurred in the mid to late 90s, and my affirmative response led her to reflect on the 'tough on crime' stance of that era. I was, unfortunately, ensnared in that period's harsh legal measures.
She emphatically stated her resolve to help, "We need to get you home." By that time, I had already spent two decades incarcerated. She reassured my ailing grandfather of her commitment, informing him that she would explore every avenue for my early release. To my knowledge, I was her first case. As juvenile parole wasn't established then, Mrs. Moore Majeed championed a clemency petition for me.
Her dedication was evident in the meticulous research and drafting of the petition. She not only grasped the nuances of my story but also deeply understood my family dynamics, particularly my bond with my grandfather.
In 2019, when my grandfather's health deteriorated, Mrs. Moore Majeed redoubled her efforts. Unable to secure my immediate release, she turned to Mrs. Julie McConnell, saying, "I have a case I believe you should review." That's the mark of a remarkable individual: even when faced with roadblocks, she sought alternative paths.
Though she may not always have all the answers, Mrs. Moore Majeed's determination and vast network can certainly guide you toward the right solutions. I'm profoundly grateful for her relentless support for both me and my family. My grandfather, although he couldn't meet her, knew that she played a pivotal role in reclaiming my freedom.
My heartfelt thanks to you, Mrs. Majeed.

I was introduced to Mrs. Moore Majeed by an Inmate at Sussex Two State Prison, I was asking God to send me someone to help me with my clemency petition. So, I've always said that Mrs. Moore was heaven-sent. One of the reasons why I chose her, was her organization was faith-based, and the other was because of her work ethic. She works countless hours helping not only the Incarcerated but all those who can't help themselves. She is a true advocate who has a heart of gold. She did an awesome job on my Clemency Petition, even helping my family and me with the cost. She is an Angel sent from heaven.
